Comparison

Best AI chat transfer extensions in 2026: an honest comparison

Several browser extensions now move a conversation from one AI to another. They differ in ways that matter: where your chat is processed, what they cost, which AIs they support, and how they handle long chats and code. Disclosure: we make mcosec.ai, one of the tools below. Every claim about other tools links to its own listing or press coverage, checked in October 2026. Features change, so check the listing before you install.

The tools, one by one

mcosec.ai

Reads the chat you have open on ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini when you press a button, compacts it on your device, and opens your chosen AI with it in the message box. Short, Standard and Detailed levels keep your first message, the latest messages and code blocks word for word while condensing older answers, with a before-and-after token count. It can also open a fresh chat in the same AI, which helps with "conversation too long". There's no account and no server.

Limits, honestly: it works on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini only; compaction uses fixed rules rather than an AI, so it's fast and private but less clever than an AI summary; files and images aren't moved; and if a site changes its layout, reading can break until an update (you can always paste the chat instead).

ThreadPort

Covered by TechRadar and Tom's Guide as a one-click way to move chats between ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Press coverage mentions a free tier with a paid "unlimited" plan announced.

SessionBridge

A Chrome extension that moves a conversation between ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, with free usage limits. Its listing doesn't clearly say where processing happens.

AI Chat Transfer

Moves chats between ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, and says on its listing that it stores data locally. A good pick if you also use Grok.

Relai and Transfrai

Two newer Chrome tools. Relai is local-only and open source. Transfrai compresses chats through a remote API, so your chat leaves your device to be processed.

MoveChat

An open-source Firefox add-on for saving and continuing chats across AI tools. The natural choice if you use Firefox.

Questions

Is there a free extension to move ChatGPT chats to Claude?

Yes. mcosec.ai is free, and several others have free tiers. You can also do it without any extension using a handoff prompt.

Do chat transfer extensions upload my conversations?

Some process chats on your device and some send them to a server, for example to compress them. Check each listing. mcosec.ai processes everything on your device.

Can any extension move files and images between AIs?

Not that we know of. Upload attachments again in the new chat.
